Abstract

Precipitation is one of the most important environmental variables that shows many spatial and temporal changes, and this phenomenon is influenced by high-level atmospheric circulation systems. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the prevailing weather patterns in connection with heavy rains in order to manage and reduce the flood risk. In this research, in order to identify the heavy rainfall patterns in the Karkheh catchment during a statistical period of 45 years (1967 to 2012), by applying the 95% percentile on the daily data of 33 synoptic and rain gauge stations, 310 days of heavy rainfall were identified through an environmental approach. . Then, in order to explain the behavior of the patterns causing these precipitations by applying principal component analysis of the t-array type and through Promax rotation on the geopotential height data of the upper atmosphere extracted from the National Center for Environmental Predictions/National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR) number 4 The weather brigade was identified. The results obtained from this research showed that most of the heavy rains in the Karkheh catchment area are affected by the placement of deep channel patterns along with cut cold channels on the area and also affected by bipolar, omega and rex type bands and the studied area is in the eastern part. The vessels formed by these patterns are located.
