Evaluation of the environmental quality of urban tourism destinations in line with sustainable development / case study: Shushtar city

Abstract

The development of tourism in urban areas is affected by various components, among which we can mention the environmental quality of these areas, which is effective in the satisfaction of local residents and tourists. Therefore, the investigation of the environmental quality indicators of tourist destinations can determine the strengths, needs and weaknesses in these environments based on the degree of satisfaction or annoyance with the city environment and guarantee the sustainability of these areas because tourists, considering the nature of tourism, to They are looking for fun and spending leisure time with pleasure. For this purpose, they are mainly looking for destinations that have the highest level of environmental quality. The purpose of this research is to investigate the role of environmental quality in the tourist destinations of Shushtar city. In terms of purpose, the type of applied research and its method is descriptive and analytical. In order to collect the required data, two documentary and field methods (questionnaire tool) have been used. Also, the tool used in data analysis is the use of descriptive and inferential statistical methods in the Excell environment and the use of Spss software. The statistical population of the research is two groups of tourists and urban households of Shushtar. The results of the one-sample T-test show that some of the environmental quality indicators of Shushtar city are above the average from the point of view of both research sample communities, and among them, the highest average belongs to the functional-structural quality (3.562), the quality of life environment (3/281), tourist attractions (3/191) and security and comfort (3/114). Also, the results of Spearman's correlation test indicate that there is the highest correlation and positive and significant relationship between sustainable development index and structural functional quality with a coefficient of 0.537 and a confidence level of 0.99. In addition, Friedman's test showed that the level of the environmental quality dimensions of the studied area is lower than the average level in the dimensions of tourist attractions, security, comfort, social and visual environment, and above the average level in the dimensions of structural functional quality and environmental quality. is.
