Abstract

Today, the situation of urbanization and informal settlement in the world and its theories and experiences contain clear and useful points. While statistics indicate the growing trend of urban population, especially in developing countries, poverty as one of the aspects of population concentration in the cities of these countries is of increasing importance. The main goal of the current research is, first of all, to identify indicators of empowerment of informal settlements with emphasis on the asset-based approach as a new approach in contrast with the need-based approach and secondly, to measure the extractive indicators in order to understand the impact of each on the residents' satisfaction. These settlements are one of the living conditions and the role of each of the indicators in improving the living conditions of these people. The area under study is the Mian Abad neighborhood of Islam Shahr, which had a population of nearly 24,000 in 2015, and at the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017, about 45,000 people lived in Mian Abad. The method used in the research is based on a combination of documents, survey and analysis, the results of the research show that the correlation in the residential building sub-index related to the physical capital index is higher than the rest and then the related monthly income sub-index. The financial need index has the highest correlation with the level of satisfaction of informal settlement residents. After these two sub-indices, it can be said that the highest scores are related to the sub-indices of the social capital index such as: responsiveness, institutional trust, participation, institutional capacity building.
