Analysis of motivations for participation in the development of sustainable tourism from the perspective of local residents of Dez protected area

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the motivators of participation in the development of sustainable tourism from the point of view of the local residents of the protected area of Dez Be Tahrir. The statistical population of the research includes residents of seventeen villages of Dez protected area with a population of 6764 people, of which 352 people were selected as a sample based on Morgan and Tuckman's table and using random sampling method. Data was collected through a researcher-made questionnaire, the validity of which was confirmed by the opinion of a team of subject experts. For its reliability, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used, and the values between 0.80 and 0.87 were obtained. The results of the research showed that the most important motivation of local residents to participate in sustainable tourism development activities is "the allocation of privileges by the government to participants in environmental protection", "increasing recreation opportunities and amenities of the village and region". "Government's more attention to the region", "Feeling of pride and belonging to the region", "Interest in sustainable tourism activities and protection of natural resources and perspectives of the region". Also, three variables of satisfaction with environmental consequences of tourism, satisfaction with social consequences of tourism, satisfaction with economic consequences of tourism, explain 44% of changes in dependent variable "motivation of local residents to participate in sustainable tourism development activities".
