Abstract

Consolidation or annexation is the legal process that allows municipalities to increase their urban land area. Often, what is neglected by planners in this process is the assessment of environmental consequences. Considering that the environmental consequences have been accompanied by irreversible destructive effects, it makes it necessary for planners to pay attention to it. The purpose of this article is to analyze the environmental consequences of the annexation of villages in the 18th district of Tehran municipality. This research, based on the fundamental-applied purpose and method; It is descriptive-analytical. The statistical population under study are the citizens and officials of the 5 districts of the 18th region. The sample size was estimated based on Kerkran's formula of 400 households (of citizens). The results of the research show that the change of use, growth of industry, population growth and land speculation cause environmental consequences (such as water pollution, air pollution, subsidence, disease and traffic), economic consequences (such as reduction of agricultural activities, increase of factories and furniture industries and employment false), social (such as immigration acceptance, decrease in the sense of place, decrease in literacy rate in men) and physical (such as interference of industrial and residential uses, decrease in agricultural land, increase in residential units). These consequences have disturbed the environmental balance that was formed based on ecological capacities. So, the development of the range has faced instability.
