Abstract

The purpose of this article is to measure and analyze the amount of sustainable urban development in the economic-social and
cultural-health structures of the cities of East Azerbaijan province in order to explain the different levels of
sustainability. The most important findings of the research show that the city of Tabriz, with 1,378,935 people and
57.91% of the urban population of East Azarbaijan province, is at a very high level of sustainable development in terms
of the structures examined. The cities of Maragheh, Mianeh, Marand and Sarab are at a high level of development with 9.75
percent of the urban population of the province. The third group of cities, which includes the cities of Benab, Ahar, Jolfa,
Sufian and Mamqan, with 20.18%, were placed at the medium level of development.

The rest of the cities, which include 62% of the number of cities and only 7.29% of the urban population of the province,
are at low levels of development in economic-social and cultural-health structures. Also, the findings of the research
show that the correlation coefficient calculated between the development of integrated indicators of economic-social and
cultural-health structures of the cities of East Azarbaijan province and the population of these cities is equal to 991.0
with a confidence level of 99%, and therefore the findings indicate the development of cities with More population and less
development are small and sparsely populated cities. Therefore, it can be concluded that these results indicate that in
terms of the overall development of the regional space pattern in the province, it is a center-periphery pattern.
