Feasibility of the impact of watershed management on improving the condition of underground water resources (case study: Isin basin, Hormozgan province)
The growing need for water resources in Iran has caused excessive exploitation and upset the natural balance of underground water resources. Considering that Hormozgan province is considered one of the low rainfall regions of the country, surface water is not able to meet the province's water needs. Isin watershed is located on the northern edge of the Persian Gulf. This basin has a continuous need to use the underground water resources of the region in order to supply water, therefore, it has faced a drop in the underground water level and this trend has been intensifying until now. In this research, after collecting information related to watershed management in the Isin basin and knowing its natural features and analyzing it, various states that may be carried out without watershed management and with watershed management have been predicted in the coming years. For this purpose, by compiling 4 scenarios and analyzing its results, it was determined that if watershed management is implemented in the basin, the amount of infiltrated water is almost one and a half times the amount of infiltrated water when no management is implemented in the basin. Based on this, by applying watershed management in the Isin Basin and implementing the proposed artificial feeding operations, in a 25-year return period, in dry years, on average 1.72 million cubic meters and in wet years, 6.63 million cubic meters per year, water will reach the surface through precipitation. The underground water of the basin will be increased.
