The purpose of this study is to monitor the drought in different time scales using the standardized precipitation-evaporation and transpiration index at kabotarabad station, Isfahan, and to determine the relationship of this index with the standardized precipitation index and soil moisture. The results showed that the most severe droughts occurred in this station in the year 2000 between 1997 and 2002. Its highest frequency is related to the scale of 3 and 6 months, which indicates more meteorological drought in this region. With the increase of the time scale, the drought has been more persistent. Also, the results showed that the standardized precipitation index and the standardized precipitation-evaporation and transpiration index had a significant correlation, but the standardized evaporation and transpiration precipitation index had a faster response than drought. According to the effectiveness of the standardized evaporation and transpiration precipitation index and considering the water balance, this index showed an acceptable correlation with the soil moisture level. The results of this study can be useful in defining an index for the relationship between types of droughts (such as meteorological and hydrological).
